Image Description

Rashtrapati Bhavan, also know as President’s House, is the official home of the President of India. Located on Raisina hills in Lutyens’ Delhi, it was designed by British architect Edwin Landseer Lutyens and its construction was completed in 1929. Consisting of four floors and 340 rooms, with a floor area of 200,000 square feet, it was built using 700 million bricks and three million cubic feet of stone. Hardly any steel was used in the construction of the building. The entire President Estate is spread over 320 acres. The main palace building was formerly known as Viceroy's House. On 26 January 1950, when Rajendra Prasad became the first President of India, this building became President’s official residence and office and was renamed as Rashtrapati Bhavan - the President's House.
